Sunaryo
Born in Banyumas on 15 May 1943. He studied sculpture at the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), graduating in 1969, and continued his studies in Carrara, Italy. His sculpture of the 1970s drew heavily on the tribal arts of Indonesia, and he has since worked across sculpture, installation and painting.
He has taught at both the Jakarta Institute of Arts and the Bandung Institute of Technology. In 1998 he opened Selasar Sunaryo, his own art space in Bandung. His awards include the Bandung Lautan Api competition in 1983, the Dasasila Bandung sculpture competition in 1984, and the Philip Morris Indonesian Art Award in 1994.
