Sp Hidayat

Born in Indramayu, West Java, in 1969. He studied fine art at the Indonesia Arts Institute (ISI) in Yogyakarta, where he was awarded the prize for best oil painting in the Faculty of Fine Art and Design in 1986.

His painting is expressionist, built from swift gestural strokes, and returns repeatedly to the lives of ordinary people and to Indonesian cultural life. He held a solo exhibition at the National Museum in Jakarta in 2005, where he launched his first publication, and has shown at Art Beijing, the Shanghai Art Fair and ARTSingapore. He was a finalist in the Philip Morris national awards.
