Widayat was born in Kutoarjo, Central Java, on March 9, 1923. He passed away at the age of 83 on June 22, 2002. His mother was a batik maker. Widayat drew much inspiration from his childhood experiences. As a child, he often listened to Javanese mythology stories while watching his mother make batik. It is not surprising that Widayat became familiar with the world of painting. He is known as a versatile painter, exploring various painting styles and themes in his artwork. His life philosophy was to pray, create, and do good deeds.His paintings often depict flora and fauna, inspired by his experiences working in forestry. His painting style is contemporary batik. Widayat also expressed his art through sculpture, craftwork, and mixed media. Exhibitions of his works have been held both domestically and internationally. His works were exhibited at the Singapore Art Museum in October 2007 in an exhibition titled "Widayat Between Worlds: A Retrospective," featuring over 70 paintings, sculptures, and ceramics.He received several awards in the field of visual arts, including recognition from the Indonesian government for his work "Kali Bawang".
