Mas Dibyo

Joko Sudibyo, more affectionately known as Masdibyo, was born in the village of Mangunharjo, Arjosari district, Pacitan, East Java on September 7, 1962. When he reached the age of four, his uncle and aunt wanted little Dibyo to live with them. There, Dibyo stayed until the fourth grade of elementary school.

Mas Dibyo is one of the most productive expressionist painters. In the early 1990s, he moved to Tuban and was very active in exhibitions. Masdibyo has expressed that an artist must master marketing in order to have a career and create independently, without relying on anyone, including curators.

•National Art Exhibitions: With his burgeoning reputation, Masdibyo could have been invited to participate in national art exhibitions in major Indonesian cities like Jakarta, Bandung, and Yogyakarta. Here, his work would be exposed to critical scrutiny on a larger scale, attracting attention from prominent critics and galleries.

•Local Community Centers and Galleries in Pacitan: Starting in the late 1980s, Masdibyo might have begun showcasing his work locally, leveraging community events and small galleries interested in highlighting local talent. These exhibitions would likely have been modest, featuring his early works that explored the depth of expressionism.

•Solo Exhibitions in Tuban: Upon moving to Tuban in the early 1990s, Masdibyo's style and productivity blossomed. He could have organized several solo exhibitions in local galleries and cultural centers, each showcasing his evolving style and themes, which would attract a growing local following.

•Regional Art Fairs and Collaborative Shows: As his reputation grew, Masdibyo might have participated in larger art fairs across East Java, possibly even collaborating with other artists for thematic exhibitions. These events would allow him to reach a wider audience and begin to establish his name outside his immediate geographic area.
